Are you tired of mower exhaust fumes yet? You know we love the Zool Yard Tool (still ranked as the coolest mower we know of) and the Neuton battery-powered mower, but there are still more options for mowing your natural lawn. We all know (and probably trust) Black & Decker tools, but did you know that they also have electric and battery-powered mowers?
Of course it has the familiar black and orange color scheme… The battery-powered version has a 36V lift-out rechargeable lead acid battery that will mow up to 1/3 of an acre on one charge. But, because it has a lift-out battery, you can have two or three on hand if you have a larger lawn. And, it’s also a mulching mower! Remember, we once told you able how grass mulching is soooooo good for your natural lawn?
Our main beef with the battery-powered version is that the battery isn’t recyclable (at least they don’t say that it is) like the Neuton’s. B&D also offers two other versions with built-in batteries (a 24V and a 36V).
If you want to deal with the hassle of a corded mower, Black & Decker has half a dozen versions, five of which are mulching mowers.
Although I do think electric mowers are a much better alternative than their gas-powered counterparts, unless your power source is wind or solar, the mower still has a carbon footprint.
I also have to wonder about the cord issue. Some of their models have a flip-over handle, so the cord can always be on the same side, but I have visions cord mulch – does anybody have any experience with this? I am genuinely curious…
Anyway, of course they all come with warranties (lifetime for some parts), and we all know Black & Decker is going to be on the scene for a long, long time. The good ‘ol black and orange seems like a good option for people just starting their venture into natural lawn care. They are familiar, trustworthy, and they don’t guzzle gas!
